What is Redistricting?
After each Census, the Georgia General Assembly conducts a redistricting process. This process affects district boundaries for U.S. Congress, Georgia General Assembly (House and Senate), County Commissioners, City Councils, and Boards of Education.
The purpose of redistricting is to ensure that populations of districts are equitable. This is sometimes referred to as “one person, one vote.”
Redistricting changes that were adopted by the General Assembly in a 2021 Special Session and the 2022 Session will take effect for the purposes of the 2022 Primary Election and General Election. District boundaries will change in 2023.
The Redistricting Process
Residents of Fulton County are assigned to a school attendance zone based on their residential address. When new schools or additional classroom capacity are added in a region, or imbalances of enrollment and capacity exist, the Board may direct staff to review attendance boundaries for modifications. This process of revising attendance boundaries is called redistricting.
Each time a redistricting effort is under way, the school system holds three rounds of meetings to gather information needed to draft a redistricting proposal that best meets the community’s needs. Unlike other school systems, Fulton uses a process that encourages public discussion before developing a proposal. This allows the community to have maximum input in how the proposed attendance lines are created.
Why Does Redistricting Matter?
Thousands of families in Fulton County will be affected by 2022 redistricting. This means that your elected representatives and the schools that your children attend may change.
How Can the PTA Help?
As part of the redistricting process, community members review and provide input on revised attendance zone alternatives in facilitated small-group discussions, commenting on residential development, traffic, previous redistricting, special programs, and other relevant issues.
The Redistricting Committee of the Wolf Creek Elementary School PTA is comprised of community members and parents who attend these meetings and provide a voice for our school and their subdivisions, which was considered when final attendance zone options were mapped.

This final recommendation will be presented to the Board for consideration on December 14, 2022, at which time, board members will vote on the final attendance zone changes.
